The Paleo Diet: What you should avoid

The Paleo Diet: What you should avoid

Wondering about the paleo diet & what you should avoid? I’ve tried to compile a list below to help you get a grasp on what’s not cool in the paleo diet.

Cut out the dairy products. Milk, butter, cheese, cream, yoghurt, and ice cream. Some paleo people still eat dairy products in moderation, a bit of cheese, some raw milk on the odd occasion. But for the most part dairy products are not part of a paleo diet.
Excess Salt. I think once you cut out all the processed foods that ALL contain added salt, you will not have a problem with excess salt. Most packaged commercial products contain iodised table salt that is bad for our health. On the other hand adding a little rock sea salt or celtic salt to cooking will not be harmful.
Potatoes and all potato products Sweet potatoes, yams and root tubers are okay, but steer well clear of starchy potatoes.
Cut out ALL processed foods. These are your worst enemy. Boxed, tinned and packet goods found abundantly at your local store. It’s mostly just unedible crap. They often contain a mix of sugar, some form of starch from wheat, potatoes, corn or rice, fat or oil, dairy products, salt, flavorings, and preservatives. Our overconsumption and compulsive overeating of these foods are the things making us fat, making us sick, and causing lifestyle diseases such as obesity, heart disease, and diabetes.
Cut out all the grains. Barley, corn, millet, oats, rice, rye, wheat and any other grain product. This includes the grain like seeds such as amaranth, buckwheat, and quinoa.
Cut out all the legumes. All types of beans, back eyed peas, chickpeas, lentils, peas, peanut butter, soybeans and all soy products.
Cut out most commercially bought sauces and condiments such as ketchup, mayonnaise, salad dressing, mustards, pickles etc.
Avoid processed meats like deli meats, bought sandwich meat loaves, tinned meat loaves, frankfurters, hot dogs, salami, etc.
Avoid the sugary sweet things. This should be obvouis considering what I’ve already listed above but in case you were wondering. Yes there goes the cakes, candy, lollies, soft drinks, chips, muffins, cookies, fruit juices and drinks, honey, sugars. candy
Say goodbye to fatty deep fired foods and most oils. Yep that’s right. Goodbye to chips, visits to McDonalds, no spring rolls, or greasy dim sims. And most oils such as canola, sunflower, safflower, and grape seed are a no no!

Does the list above have you worried? Are you feeling daunted by the thought of not eating all that yummy, greasy, satisfying junk food?

I completely understand. It took me a while to make the decision to change but surprisingly it’s much easier than you think. There is such a wide selection of paleo diet foods you can eat.
